ok so we get this question almost everyday . the problem is that there are over a million apps each with their own notification icons. so unless it is something like facebook or youtube, you will only get guesses from us.
the only true way to know is to look in the phone's notifications by pulling the notification bar down or thru the phone's settings. so you will have to ask this "someone" to do this. or have this "someone" ask their significant other what the icons are.
i would not hold your breath here for too long expecting an answer.
The spiral looks a lot like the AuroraWatch app icon, except mirrored.
The stylised N thing has some similarity to Facebook Messenger, but isn't identical (sharper angles, broader central band).
I can't say I see anything "suspicious" looking, if the person who asked you had the same reason for asking that most of those who ask these questions here have (trust issues in their relationships).
No it's not that. At least here in AF, the reason is that, it's not their phone. It's usually their significant other's. They are just afraid to ask them because they don't trust them.
