Gas prices?

I try to find Top Tier Gas because it's far better. It's one of the reasons we switched from Sam's Club to Costco... because Costco has Top Tier Gas, Sam's does not. Problem is that Costco (and Sam's) are 35 miles away... so I'll have to use Marathon* or another local station for it. While it costs generally the same as other brands nearby due to competition, I'm willing to pay a few cents/gallon more if it will help my engine run cleaner and last longer.

*- I went to several local stations that reportedly sell Top Tier gas... like Marathon and Exxon. I was surprised that the pumps weren't labelled Top Tier like Costco - so surprised that I had to research and make sure they still were.

Most of the pictures of gas prices I have posted here are from the BP gas station by my house. I normally get my gas at that station. BP is not listed as a top tier gas.

From what I have read there is a detergent standard for top tier gas. A couple of weeks ago I took my Grand Cherokee in for 30,000 mile service and one of the services performed was injector cleaning

Reading about BP gas with Invigorate, it seems to be a good "top tier" type gas, but isn't listed as Top Tier
https://www.bp.com/en_us/united-states/home/products-and-services/fuels.html

It has me thinking Top Tier is more of a marketing ploy, but it will point you to gas with detergent additives, which I think most major brands have.

All gas is required by the EPA to have a minimum level of detergent additives to reduce emissions... but it wasn't enough to reduce carbon deposits within the engine. That's when several auto makers got with the petroleum companies to create Top Tier, which was tested by AAA and shown to result in 19 times fewer deposits. Pretty much every gas will call their additives something (like BP's Invigorate), but I would question how it performs against Top Tier or what gas was tested.

I also use Royal Purple Fuel System Cleaner every 10,000 miles or so, though, just to keep the Explorer purring. She's coming up on 101,000 miles and 85-90 MPH is still her sweet spot.

I did a little more digging. BP says:

".....Does bp's gasoline meet TOP TIER™ detergent gasoline standards? All grades of bp/Amoco gasoline with Invigorate® exceed TOP TIER™ detergent requirements and provide enhanced benefits to our consumers, such as cleaning your engine,3 that TOP TIER™ fuels do not......"

3 Requires continuous use. Helps to remove existing harmful deposits on critical engine parts and intake valves. As distinguished from the intake valve Keep Clean performance requirements of TOP TIER’s™ Detergent Gasoline Performance Standard.

If it's that good I don't why they don't join the Top Tier club

I had to research if I've been buying top tier gas and I am. I assumed I was buying the best available in my area for it is the only gas recommended by the three largest lawnmower suppliers in Wichita. They still recommend an additive which I do not use. I do buy premium gas for my mowers that is currently priced at $3.59. Regular is still at $3.09.

I filled up my truck this afternoon at the same $3.09 price. I drove down to my cabin and met a friend. I drove through the little town near there which always has gas a little higher than at home. To my surprise their price was also $3.09

That's pretty amazing. If you get a chance to check prices today, let us know if it has changed (y)

I drove by my normal gas station and I was wrong, their price had changed. Instead of $3.09 it was $3.06! I also drove by their biggest competitor and their gas was also $3.06.

That's amazing. It's pretty normal for gas stations to raise the price on holidays, but they haven't in Kansas. I pay $1.43 a gallon more. I'm getting ripped off

Your gas is probably better. :) That does seem to be a major ripoff. My truck holds 32 gallons. At $1.43 a gallon it would take $45.76 more to fill my tank up where you live. Now that bites!
