Help I want to update my phone to Pie using SamFirm & Odin. How do I find the CSC/REGION???

An overriding issue with your model (SM-G965U) is with AT&T manually upgrading can be problematic. AT&T is apparently notorious for being resistant in releasing ROMs to consumers for their phones. Looking through other valid Samsung ROM repository sites, while there are typically a lot of ROMs for different carriers available, AT&T ROMs just aren't as prevalent. So unless you do get an OTA upgrade, being able to manually upgrade your device will be more of an issue.
Just some examples:
https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/firmware/SM-G965U/
https://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model/?q=SM-G965U&exact=1&r=&v=&rpp=100

But I'm also a bit confused as you've stated this is an AT&T branded phone but you're going to use a Metro PCS SIM in it? Isn't Metro PCS now a MVNO tied to T-Mobile?

.... and just to add, yes it's easy to brick your device using Odin when you don't follow instructions and don't use the correct ROMs, which is basically true for any method or utility you use to flash your device. Just be sure to a) always have a safe backup solution and b) thoroughly research what you're going to do. Flashing your device just a whim is taking a gamble.

Whatsapp notifications not working (late or only when I open the app)

FWIW, I *just* started having the exact same issues as the OP. Like in the last few days.

WhatsApp's most recent update was on July 1--so I don't see how this issue can be related to that. (I haven't read the thread.)

I've done nothing [yet] to fix it, because I didn't do anything to break it, you know?

S2 Tab, Ad freezing whole tablet on startup

please can you tell me how to find which order things were installed?
The link I posted sorts by most recent--if you open it in a browser. If it opens in the Play Store app, it's different.

If you're reading this in a browser, and clicking/pressing the link makes the Play app open, right-click or long-press on the link, then choose to open it in a new tab. When you go to that tab, your apps should be sorted by most recent.

Google Search Issue possibly caused by July Update?

last resort you guys can do a factory reset and see if that works. i have had updates previously get all screwy on my phone and had no choice but to reset it....which worked. it sucks, but it is worth a try if this bug really annoys you.

I'm not sure it's bugging me quite that much yet. ;)

Android newbie help needed!

On the repair side of things, is a DIY job possible? I successfully replaced the screen + digitiser on my Nexus 5. Don't know how feasible this is with your phone though.

I'm honestly not sure. I contemplated buying a replacement screen and giving it a go but, as said above, insurance offer to repair or replace. I'm a bit worried they might reject a claim if i play around with the screen, fail and then send it in! Then i'm left with a bricked phone and have to pay £269 to nearest repair place in London. Or risk a kiosk repair. Pain in the arse situation! Thanks for your help dude.

android permission for usb file reading

I want to access sys/usb /subsystem/ folder in android 9 but its giving access denied. before android 9 , iam able to read files from there. how to get rid of permission denied, or any permission i should ask at runtime
anything with "sys" you will not have access to it unless you root your device. system files are part of the android os and you need root access to make any changes to it. what are you trying to do?

Smartwatch

so my gear s3 i love mainly because of the bezel that rotates. it is very convenient. i also love s3 because it is one of the bigger round faces on the market. i mainly use it to show my notifications and for fitness. the fitness app is great because it also logs your gps as well as heart rate and such.

i might get the s4 if they plan on releasing one this year. i also have the lg urbane which is another cool watch as well.

Apps App design how to organize views?

I'm developing an App in which users navigate through a tree structure using a lists, so the user sees:

root 1
root 2
root 3

After selecting one of those, they are on the next level of the tree structure and they see:

You are on root 2:
level 1
level 2
level 3

Navigating the structure is fine. My issue is that I also want a detail view for each item of the structure.
So right now I'm using tabs to show subitems in one tab and a detail view of the currently selected item on another tab. If you understand what I explained, you can guess this is probably not the best approach, as it feels a bit confusing/non-intuitive that both tabs behave as a detailview, one with subitems/levels and the other as an actual detail view.

The reason for navigating the tree structure like this instead of having a list of expandable items is that each item might have quite many subitems and scrolling much is not desirable. So the tree structure navigation solves that issue but creates anoter: I cannot anymore click an item and show its detailview.

Did I brick my LG v20 H910/H915?

Not panicing!
I found https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/root-h910-v10m-t3664500 to follow.
The link there to the "dirty santa" files was no good so I got them at the site you show above then returned to the thread I started at to keep going with the process.
The hard reset process you cite fails at step 4.
Because I need a phone I bought a v20 vs995 in case I can't get this working again. If I pay round-trip postage would you care to try to resuscitate it? (At what you might charge, of course!)
sorry this is better for you to figure out. it is a way to learn how things work. plus if you are able to revive the phone, the feeling of accomplishment.....there is nothing better.

try the firmware guide i posted and see if this works or not.

Please Help me Make a Simple App

Thanks for responding guys. I guess I can use network location, really, right? It does not have to be exact, like GPS. As far as the way it would work, I do not want it to be static. I Google Maps API constantly and tell me if the store is nearby. I want it to be dynamic and work in all areas, not just for one particular store.

And, year, I am kinda into this stuff.
