For the most part that is correct, although the part about selecting clockwork is not true. It's just called recovery when you're in the bootloader. The power button is basically the enter button in recovery, and the volume up and down keys move up or down the list.
Also, not all roms are deodexed but most of them are. So you can't be sure that's the issue, although I'm pretty sure it should just be a software problem and something went wrong when flashing it.
