Here is a list of commonly used Android terms. If you want to see something added to this list please feel free to PM myself or any other staff member and we will look into it.


Bootloader:
Bootloader is a piece of code that runs before any operating system is running. Bootloaders are used to boot other operating systems, usually each operating system and phone has a set of bootloaders specific for it. They usually contain several ways to boot the OS kernel and also contain commands for debugging and/or modifying the kernel environment or entering recovery. Since it is usually the first software to run after powerup or reset, it is highly processor and board specific. Bootloaders always come locked so curious consumers don't screw with things that they don't understand. Some phones take it a step further - encryption security is employed so that only critical components with the encrypted key signature can be installed. Some bootloaders can't be unlocked because no one has broken the encryption security yet or because the manufacturer doesn't provide an unlock tool. Some locked bootloaders are able to be
