Google Maps 7.x compass mode?

Does Google Maps 7.X compass mode work in your car? It worked fine in maps 6.X because it used gps to determine direction. Since google. Maps compass mode switched to using compass to determine direction it won't work in my car. Too much metal. In fact if I download any compass app that only uses compass not gps it won't work in a car. How bout you? Compass mode means you are not. In navigation but you want the map to Orient so whatever direction you are headed is directly up on the map. You access it by hitting the icon on the lower right corner twice. Also called follow me mode.

I never noticed that they had changed that, although I always use "North up" on a GPS. Add one more stupid move on Google's part.

Have you tried calibrating the compass while you're inside your car using GPS Status? Three turns of the phone (you give it three turns in each axis) may give it a better chance of getting a decent calibration than turning the car a few degrees.

Works fine at home. Can't even calibrate in car
