Help International fees(At&t-CANADA)

Hello I'm going to Canada for 1 night and I didn't want to pay for a 1 month international plan for 1 month so I called at&t and they informed me of the rates I'd be charged if I used my phone for data, calls and texts but they said I'd be charged $0.50 per incoming text and outgoing???


Is their a way to prevent incoming texts? I can't believe they charge for incoming calls as well as texts that's ridiculous!!
