Microsoft reveals subscription pricing for using Windows 10 beyond 2025

Need proof? A Microsoft account is required just to log in! You can't use a local login and password with Win11. I read that fine print...

Nice to see you, @kate - it's been a long time!
You can use a local account without issue. I have Win11 on my personal laptop and use a local account. It's buried in the settings, but the option is there.

I don't like Win11, but for reasons such as that the entire UI is just not my thing.

Is Tipping Getting Out Of Control?

I got caught up in the segment of the Steve Allen show from the sixties that had Frank Zappa on playing bicycles as musical instruments that followed your clip. Zappa and the Mothers Of Invention were out there. I saw them in a concert in the early seventies. His show opened with the band sitting behind vintage band stands from the forties. Frank came out dressed in a tux and had a band leader baton. He tapped it a couple of times on his music stand, raised his arms to start the first song, and then all hell broke loose. They rocked the place until everyone was wracked in pain. Crazy guy!

LG Unveils ‘Primefocus Health,’ New Venture Developing Home Healthcare Treatment

New LG NOVA Digital Health Venture Aims to
Enable Providers to Offer Patients Personalized Home Care

Primefocus Health Logo

SEOUL, May 14, 2024 — LG Electronics (LG) has unveiled “Primefocus Health,” a new venture that aims to leverage innovative technologies and new healthcare therapies to enable providers to deliver a personalized, complete care experience and empower individuals to take control of their health at home. Primefocus Health is the first new venture launched by LG NOVA, LG Electronics North America Innovation Center.

This new provider-focused, patient-centric healthcare platform intends to give patients access to new healthcare therapies made available by innovative technology applications, as well as providers access to patient data and progress information to help ensure that their patients are on the right path to better health.

Healthcare providers are under pressure to improve patient care and reduce readmissions and patient and provider costs. However, according to the National Institutes of Health, more than USD 52.4 billion is spent annually to care for patients who were readmitted to the hospital within 30 days for a previously treated condition.

To help reduce these costs and enable better personalized care, Primefocus Health plans to develop a remote monitoring and healthcare delivery platform, using innovative non-invasive technology for tracking patient progress for multiple medical conditions, which can be integrated with the provider’s electronic health record system, artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities for ease of use. The platform aims to empower healthcare providers to effectively manage outcomes, assist, guide, communicate and intervene when needed to deliver quality care.

“LG Electronics has a longstanding, trusted reputation with consumers in homes worldwide, and in unveiling Primefocus Health we are seeking to build on that history as we ask consumers to trust us, in collaboration with their providers, with their healthcare management as well,” said Darren Sabo, CEO of Primefocus Health. “Primefocus Health is committed to leveraging the latest technology to revolutionize patient care at home, leading toward a future of personalized, accessible, and effective care.”

As an LG NOVA-backed company, Primefocus Health brings the high-quality, innovative experience of the LG brand to healthcare. For providers, the Primefocus Health platform will be designed to enable them to extend their care beyond the hospital to the home with the objective of reducing the strain on the provider to keep their patients healthy.

“LG NOVA is dedicated to building businesses that drive positive change and enhance people’s lives,” said Sokwoo Rhee, executive vice president of innovation at LG Electronics and head of LG NOVA. “We recognize that technology can play a key role in the transformation of patient care and the healthcare industry at large, and we are committed to leading that charge with Primefocus Health. We look forward to seeing its impact on transforming home healthcare for patients and providers alike.”

Heart Trauma Recovery

I was expecting a pissing contest between my cardi and and kidney guy. It might come yet :) I saw my cardiologist this afternoon. He understood being off of the four drugs the kidney guy said to quit taking but said it will only be temporary and he will have me back on the meds. I told him I felt way too good without them to consider taking them again. "We've got to consider the long term with your heart." was his response. I'm closer to 72 than 71 years old. What the hell long term is he talking? It took me 71 years to have a heart attack. I don't think long term at my age is possible no matter what the drug... sheesh.

Any Time is Grillin Time

Tonight is our DAV & VFW meetings, so we'll have two choices for dinner... take it or leave it...

Tomorrow, I believe the Darling Bride will use the leftover chicken to make something with the cheese tortellini she had me buy. Wednesday, I'll probably make Caprese Salad for two.

Favorite breakfast?

I just ate a couple of hard boiled duck eggs. They were larger than a large chicken egg and maybe a bit richer in flavor. I could easily eat them on the regular if they were readily available. These were a gift from one of my son's good friends. They have a somewhat rural setting and have chickens and ducks. They aren't local or I'd tap them for more eggs now and then. :)

Rant Thread - What really grinds your gears?

I used the broken bose at work and then mowing. For the last few years they were used just while mowing and when riding my bike. In the scheme of things... they have countless hours on them. I guess I replace them with the Ultra. I thought about the quietcomfort 2 but they are dated and the same price.
I wanted to report that I'm enjoying the new Bose QC Ultra earbuds. I mowed my cabin property today while listening to music. The buds sound great and the comfort of the fit is stellar. They did a great job of canceling the noise of the mower and they did not move around or come lose in my ears. I came home and took an hour bike ride wearing them and then rode again later wearing them. They were very comfortable and didn't irritate my ears. The only thing I miss from the broken Bose is the charging case could be charged with an inductive charger or usb c. The Ultra buds case can only be charged by a usb c connection.

Favorite Books?

What does everone read on here? Make sure to write a description of the books, maybe that way we might find something new to read! Ill start:

I have a lot of favorites -

"Hatchet" by Gary Paulsen

"The Frontiersmen" by Alan Eckert, also "Wilderness Empire" and "Blue Jacket" by the same author
-All three are about the expansion through america's wilderness and native american lands. The author studied letters, diaries, newspapers, gvt. records, etc. of the time and compiled it into a narrative.

"Band of Brothers" by Stephen Ambrose
-You may have seen the HBO miniseries. It follows Easy Company, 506th PIR of the 101st Airborne from boot camp to VE day in World War Two.

"20,000 Miles South" by Frank and Helen Schreider
-Another nonfiction.. a couple in the early fifties who take an old WW2 army jeep, fabricate it into an amphibious vehicle, and drive it from alaska all the way down to the southernmost tip of south america. Pretty amazing story.

"The Lost City of Z: A Tale of Deadly Obsession in the Amazon" by David Grann
-Another true story of Col. Percy Fawcett, a famous explorer in the 20s who was obsessed with finding the lost city of El Dorado (city of gold) in the amazon.. he ends up dissapearing. Over the years following over a hundred people go in search of him and never return.

"The Ice Master: The Doomed 1913 Voyage of the Karluk" - nonfiction narrative describing Vilhjalmur Stefansson's 1913-1914 attempt to reach the north pole. The ship gets stuck in ice. Stefansson leaves on a hunting expidition across the ice and doesn't return. Captain Robert Bartlett takes leadership and they all travel across the ice to "wrangel island" a rocky little island in the arctic. Eventually Capt. Bartlett and one of the Inuit guides take a small party of sled dogs and make it to alaska to send for releif. Keep in mind the temperatures range around 0 to -50 degrees (that's right NEGATIVE 50) and for a few MONTHS it is completely dark 24/7. It was over a year from the time the ship got stuck in the ice to the time the crew was rescued, 11 people died either in the journey over the ice or when they were stranded on the island.

"I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell" by Tucker Max
-google it

"My Horizontal Life" by Chelsea Handler
-more drunken sexcapades, this one from a female perspective

as you can see, I mostly like nonfiction :)
