Need help changing default phone app from Messages

Try going into the Apps menu in your Settings, find and open the Viber app entry, and in the Open by default option tap on the 'Clear Defaults' button. That should clear the Viber app from being the default phone call app. If you then launch the Phone app and there's a prompt to make it the default be sure to follow through accordingly.

Help Can't put picture to a contact...

The only way to add picture to your contacts in Android 9 is:

1.Transfer all your contacts from SIM to Phone.

2.Open a contact to which you want to add picture.

3.Push “Edit”, on top of the screen, left you will get 2 choices – Phone and Sim.

4.Chose “Phone” and push the colored circle under it with camera picture.

5.From the screen that will open, chose “Gallery”, chose a picture from the “Gallery” that you want to add.

6.Resize the picture or chose “Done”.

7.Than, on the new screen that will open, chose “Save”.

Files Organization

Needs to be noted that if you do go through the process of rooting your device, it then becomes much easier for a user to mess things up. By deleting files/folders without knowing why they exist can render an app to just fail if you're lucky, or brick your device if you're not. Typically once you delete an app's working folder it will just rebuild/restore it when starting up the app (as you've already noted.) If the app is in use while you delete its working folder, it might just fail so you just restart the app (and maybe lose any saved data in process). If you're deleting system-level directories however, that might be more hazardous. So just go into this venture knowing that wiping folders on a whim might not be what you want to do.
Yeah I know it's risky to go deep in root, that's why I'm waiting to do it. I think I'll just try something like locking SD and Internal memory so the folders don't install anymore, for DCIM maybe see an informatician for renaming the folder. And of course, saving everything and having something to begin phone to 'factory version' before doing anything.
Well I need more knowledge before doing anything.
Thank you :)

Streaming data over Wifi

With the Google Photos app installed on your Android device, it will automatically back up and sync your device's photo library into your online Google account. On your Android device just be sure to go into the Settings menu of the Google Photos app and set things up the way you want (i.e. some people prefer to have backup & sync only over WiFi and not over their mobile data). If you prefer the Gallery app or some other photo manager app over the Google Photos user interface you can still use that app, leaving the Google Photos backup & sync functionality just running in the background.
(... note that if you have a really large number of photos already on your Android device and you've just installed and configured the Google Photos app the initial backup to your online Google account might take a while, dependent on the upload bandwidth of your online connection, but subsequent backups won't typically be an issue. Again, upload bandwidth is a factor.)
On your desktops/laptops you use any web browser and go to:
https://photos.google.com
to access your photo library. There are rudimentary editing tools to manipulate your photos in either the Google Photos app or using the web interface, with that 'sync' functionality working to keep your mobile device and online account photo libraries in sync with each other. (i.e. scale or lighten or whatever a photo in one will eventually result in other), plus if you accidentally or inadvertently delete a photo it gets retained in the 'Trash' for 60 days so you can restore it if necessary.

As an aside, if you're looking for something that applies to more than photos and videos (and since there's a growing number of people who just don't want to give up more of their lives to Google, an debatable sentiment for Android users), you might want to look into setting up something like Syncthing instead. It allows you to sync your data between devices and being an Open Source project it's not tied to actual or perceived corporate influences.

Permission for "Storage"

You're correct in saying that there are certain 'public' areas that apps are allowed to access by default. There's no specific permission to allow or deny access to photos, unless I am mistaken.

Btw if you're interested, here's a list of permissions, from a programmatic point of view. As you can see, these are more detailed than the list which is presented on the permissions page of the settings.

https://developer.android.com/guide/topics/permissions/overview

Can you see anything related to granting access to photos or downloaded files? I couldn't.

Why chromium's crash reporter has been removed from AOSP

I am trying to port chromium's crash reporter onto Android. Observed Android -N codebase has chromium's crash reporter code(https://android.googlesource.com/platform/system/core/+/refs/heads/nougat-dev/crash_reporter/), but I have seen that it has been removed from Oreo onwards.
Can anyone tell what could be the reason to remove crash reporter from AOSP Oreo source onwards?

Incoming Call Turns Phone Off!

I did a soft reset and uninstalled the last 5 apps I added. So far everything is working well. I will gradually add an app at a time to try and isolate the culprit!
Had exact problem and took all the steps you did. My dropped calls turned out to be i needed a new SIM card because old one damaged somehow. No dropped calls since the new card.
