android 8 changed knock code after update from 7

ill keep in short cuz im shaking and freaking out, I updated my phone to android 8 last night after waiting days cuz I was scared I would lose my data. I did it and my fingerprint id worked when I turned it on after the update so I thought it was fine. my phone just died and I swapped the battery with the spare, when I unlock it, my fingerprint isn't working cuz fresh start, and my knock code is completely different, and hitting the boxes how I did on 7 used 6 of my attempts to get in, I cant lose my data and idk what to do. please help.

somebody please help, this is my only method of contracting anybody other than the ancient pc im using for this message, it only has 1 attempt now because it changed the code from 6 to 4 or something
