Our main page is located at www.androidforums.com

From here you can navigate to many of the different areas of android forums. Our forums are broken up into different sections.

The android community section has our introduction forums where new members are encouraged to introduce themselves. The lounge where you can discuss everything even if it is not android related. Our classified section where you can buy and sell used phone and other device from other members.

The android discussion section houses the Android News and Talk a place for general android related chit chat. The android applications forum where you can discuss and get help for specific apps. The android games forums where you can discuss android games. The android media area where you can discuss anything related to android and multimedia. The android themes forum to share and discuss different themes available. Finally the android accessories area to discuss various android related accessories.

The android phones section is where you can find specific phone forums for most devices. They are sorted in alphabetical order by manufacturer name.

The android tablets is where you can find specific tablet forums also sorted in alphabetical order by manufacturer name. There is also our general tablet talk forum in this area.

If you are looking for a device in either the phone or tablet forums and can't find it then you may want to check the archived android devices section. If a forum for a specific device doesn't get any new posts after a period of time it is moved to this section you can find both phones and tablets in this section.

The other android devices area is for any devices that are not tablets or phones yet still android powered. This includes TVs and media players.

For resident developers the android development forums are available. The application development area is for general development talk. If someone is a recognized developer for custom ROMs they can also get a subforum for their releases.

The manufacturer forums is a place to discuss different android manufacturers.

The android carriers section is a place to discuss different carriers and find information about the various carriers.

The community info and talk forums include the contests forum. An area to discuss the Phandroid application. The site updates and announcement forum and the suggestion box where you can offer ideas for improvements to the site.

When you have a question about something you may want to post a thread about it instead of posting in an existing thread that is unrelated. If so you will just need to press the post new thread icon.PNG button.

Some of our forums require you to select a prefix prior to posting a new thread.
create thread prefix.PNG

You should try to choose the best prefix for what you are posting about

The "General" prefix should be used for general discussion OTA, release date, prices... it is a catch all for anything that does not fit one of the other prefixes.

The "Tips" prefix should be used if you have a tip you wish to share.

The "Support" prefix should be used if you require support for an issue.

The "Accessory" prefix should be used if the thread is discussing any type of accessory.

You may edit your own posts - and if you started the thread, tap Edit, then "More Options", and you can change the thread title for up to one year after the date of the thread creation. But no worries, just use the report button report button.PNG or contact one of our guides (members who have a light blue "Guide" banner under their name ) and we can change it if you like. :)

Finally a tip for when you are making a thread titles like "HELP!!!" do not identify your issue and may cause less people to look at the thread. When naming a thread try using a short description of the problem instead of a generic title ;)

When you want to reply to a thread there are a couple of options available to post.

You can press the reply button.PNG button in a members post, that is located on the bottom right of the post you want to reply to. The "reply" button will automatically insert the members' text to your reply box. ---(This is the most common way to quote someone's text when replying to a certain member.)

You can also use the quote button.PNG button located at the bottom-right of each post in the thread.
Hitting the "quote" button will automatically start a "multi-quote" action.

You can also just simply start typing a reply in the reply box at the bottom of the thread.

Once you are done with your reply press "post reply" at the bottom of the reply box and you will be redirected to the thread with your new reply posted.

If you want to search the forums for a specific topic several options are available for you.

You can use the quick search link (the magnifying glass icon at the upper right of the screen, under the word, "alerts". Here you would be doing a basic search.
magnifying glass icon.PNG

You can also use the advanced search feature.
advanced search.PNG

There are multiple options available if you choose to use the advanced search.
Search Everything
Search Threads and Posts
Search Profile Posts
Search Resources

You can search by keyword. When using the search by keyword function you can choose to specify if you want to search the titles of threads only or all posts.

You can search by user name. When using the search by username function you can specify if you are searching for all the user's posts or just the threads created by the user.

If you wish to search a specific forum you can choose it using the search in forum(s) feature. If you wish to search multiple forums use the ctrl button to select more than just one forum.

When searching forums that require prefixes you can specify which prefix you are searching for by using find threads with prefix.

You can use the find threads with feature. Where you can specify how many replies you wish the threads in your results have.

You can specify a specific date range using the find posts from feature.

You can choose how you want the results displayed to you by using the show results by option.

If you are in a forum with prefixes,
prefix selection.PNG

you can also filter the threads by the prefix by clicking on the general button.PNG , tips button.PNG ,or support button.PNG buttons. For example, if you are in a forum, and only want all threads with the prefix "tips" to show, then click on any "tips" button, and all threads prefixed with "tips" will show.

A sticky is a thread that has been deemed important enough to be "stuck" to the top of the forum it is in. We have stickys for various reasons and the different ways to access android forums display stickys differently. If you are browsing the full site a sticky will appear at the top of the forums between the 2 blue divider bars and are also indicated by a red pushpin
red push pin.PNG
:
stickies.PNG

If you are browsing using tapatalk you will see a pin symbol that shows which threads are stickys.

You should use the
report button.PNG
button when a post breaks the site rules or if you need a thread modification (thread name change, thread move...). After you report a post the moderators are alerted to the post and will decide if there needs to be anything done. After you press the button you are given a box to describe what the issue with the post is. If you think something should be reported then report it and the moderators will be able to make the final decision on it, remember the only bad report is the one that doesn't happen. And don't worry that the poster you are reporting will find out they are not given that information.

If you want to create a quick way to get to the forums you visit often here, you can update your favorite forums box to have links to these forums.

Add favorite forums by navigating to the section of your choice and clicking the star. When it's yellow that means it's been favorited. Simply click again to un-favorite.
Before:
unwatched forum star selection.PNG

After:
adding favorite forums.PNG

Once you add a forum, it will appear under your "My Forums" when you mouse over it:

We are always looking for ways to make the forums better and are open to suggestions. If you have an idea for a feature or you notice a bug or you think a section would be helpful then make a thread for it in the Suggestion Box.

Also from here if you have something that you would like to discuss just with staff you can make a thread in the Private Chat With Staff area, here the only people who can see the thread you make are you and the guides, mods, and admin. You can also use the private chat area to alert staff members of a forum that needs to be cleaned up, if you notice there are a bunch of root threads in the general section or the prefixes are all wrong for some reason just create a new thread in the private chat with staff area to alert the staff to take a look at it and try to get it cleaned up.

If you would like to contact just Moderators and not the entire staff feel free to go here: Private Chat with Moderators. Threads that you make in this forum work like the Private Chat with Staff forum, where only you and the Moderators can see it.

Your Account Page is where you will go to change anything about your account from your email address and password to your avatar and signature.
Just mouse over your username in the upper right corner,
account page.PNG

and a dropdown will appear:
account name dropdown.PNG

From there you can click whatever you want to look at.
Alternatively, you can just click your username and it will bring you to your profile page.

If you wish to view your profile all you need to do is click your username in the upper right of the screen and a dropdown will appear. In the dropdown, click on "your profile page"
account page.PNG

The first thing you may see is your profile picture beside your username.

If you have not set one it will look like this instead.
avatar_l.png

If you wish to change your profile pic or put one up for the first time go to your "Personal Details" page (again, in the dropdown when mousing over your username), and click the avatar pictured there, and you can set your profile picture.
Alternatively, when you are in your profile page, click on your avatar (far left) and it will give you the option to change it:
changing avatar.PNG

Click the button next to "Use Custom Avatar" and then "Choose File".
(at the time of this edit, it appears that you can only choose files from your computer)
If you try to change it to a picture that is too big and can't be resized properly you will get an error, otherwise once you press "okay", the screen should refresh and you will see your new image. Then you can go back to your profile and see your new image as well.

When viewing a thread, you can choose to "watch" the thread by clicking on the "watch thread" text in the upper right hand corner of the first post on the page:
watch thread text.PNG

and a popup will appear to either get notified by email, or not:

watch thread popup.PNG

and then you will get alerts of any new posts in that particular thread.

Once you have 25 posts you will be able to display a signature under some of your posts, but are limited to
0 images, 0 links, 1 line of text, 50 character max. This may be reviewed in the near future, as this is an effort to help clean up the feel of the site. ;)
So, with that being said, to add a signature to your posts, go to your "personal details" page. (either click on your username in the upper right corner of the screen or mouse over it to click on "signature:
account name dropdown.PNG

Once you have your signature laid out, you can "save changes" or "preview" your signature.

If you want to send another member a message you can do so using our "conversations" system, aka: "private messaging" ;)

One of 2 ways to start one.
Mouse over your username in the right upper corner, and click on the "conversation" text.
It will take you to your conversations page, where you will see a button to start a new conversation:
conversation via conversation page.PNG

or, from your "Personal Details" page on the left side:
conversation via personal details page.PNG

type in the members name you wish to start a conversation with.
Enter a title, (if you do not, or forget to add a title, you will get an error. No big deal, you can then enter a title)
Enter your text, then hit the "Start a Conversation". Or if you desire, you can preview it before you send.
You also have the option to:
Allow anyone in the conversation to invite others, or
Lock conversation (no responses will be allowed).
When someone responds to your conversation, you will be alerted to the fact via the "alerts" tab in the upper right corner.

If you find a specific user it just too much for you to stand you can add them to your ignore list and you will no longer see their posts and can not receive private messages from them (with the exception of PM's from Mods/Admin).

To add someone to your ignore list, hover over your username in the upper right corner, and click on "personal details"
This will bring you to your own account screen, then look on right side for the "people you ignore" option:
people you ignore.PNG

From there, you can enter the member name, and click "save changes":
enter ignore member name.PNG

Edit: an easier way is to click on the members' avatar, then click on "ignore" :)

If you think your posts or threads have disappeared since they aren't where you remember posting them. They could have been moved or more likely they are further back in the forums and have just fallen off page 1. The easiest way to find these is by hovering over the "My Posts" option towards the upper left on the main page:
My Posts.PNG

There you will see your posts and threads in the dropdown:

How to move the Subforum and Root Forum back to the top of the Page:
Either mouse over your username in the upper right hand corner and choose "preferences", or access preferences in your account tab.
Once in your preferences, choose the "Show subforums above content instead of below" and click save.
