Install Official Sony firmware without unlocking bootloader

Is it possible to pick and install officially released firmware on my Xperia X Performance, without unlocking the bootloader? I have a three year warranty and don't want to void it if possible.
Also, I am trying this as a workaround to not being able to update from 6.0.1 to 8.0 for some reason as described in this thread, so using Xperia Companion isn't an option... https://androidforums.com/threads/cant-update-system-software.1273072/
