MetroPCS greatly increased phone prices. Why?

Upvote 0
It's called inflation. Which I believe is rather high in the US.
And one big cause of inflation is companies who use the fact that everyone knows inflation is high to raise their prices by more than their costs.

There's a reason why many corporations' profits are rising "despite" the rising costs...

Thank you very much. Unusual ad. The price with and without activation is the same. It doesn't show Metro as a phone carrier. It indicates you can save money but it doesn't say how. How about the Samsung S21?
It's unlocked, you can sign on to any carrier you like. You just need a sim card from the carrier of your choice. Just bring the phone in to metro and they'll install a sim card for you.

Where are you seeing these prices? Looking on tne Metro site the prices on those phones are much lower than your numbers here and there are deals that can make them very cheap or even free (new customer or adding a new line to an existing account).
As stated you do have BYOD as an option. In addition to buying new from Amazon, Best Buy etc. you may also want to check out the offerings on Swappa. New and used devices are available there at good prices.
