Phone makes calls when in pocket

I keep making calls to people accidentally, even though I have selected the setting that is supposed to prevent this. I make sure that the screen is black and inactive. Still I often seem to have called my last caller or someone on my recent call screen. This happens even without much movement, such as while working at a desk with the phone in my shirt pocket. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help.

If you just have a "slide to unlock" and no pattern/PIN/fingerprint then anything waking the phone (incoming message, accidental button press) plus it rubbing against your leg or chest can unlock it. Some phones have a shortcut to the phone app on the lockscreen, which would make it even easier (remember we don't know anything about your setup).
