"In their initial press release, Samsung had sent the media that the Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22+ were equipped with 10~120Hz Dynamic AMOLED 2X displays. However, 3 days later, Samsung has silently changed the details of the press release, now stating that the Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22+ were equipped with only 48~120Hz Dynamic AMOLED 2X displays instead."

Well it's small beer compared to some past retractions. My favourite is still their handling of the Galaxy S4 launch:

Customers: You advertise 16 GB but only 10 GB are available and I've filled it already
Samsung: Just move some apps to SD
Customers: There is no option to move apps to SD
Samsung: Just move some apps to SD
Customers: (more loudly, in increasing numbers) There is no option to move apps to SD!
Samsung: Issues a press release telling people who are short of storage to move apps to SD
Customers: What part of "there is no option to do that" don't you understand?!
National media: In tonight's consumer affairs programme we will report on Samsung answering complaints about lack of storage by telling customers to do something their phones cannot do...
Samsung: Oh, hang on, we've just realised that there's a bug that meant you couldn't move apps to SD. Let's fix that.

(It wasn't strictly a bug, but I'm sure they thought that made them look less incompetent than the full story would have).

It's not unique to Samsung either. I always loved the way that HTC would advertise specs on their UK site that weren't available in UK models, without even a disclaimer that those variants were only available in some countries.

A statement from Samsung states...

"While the display component of both devices support between 48 to 120Hz, Samsung’s proprietary technology offers adjustable display refresh rates, where data transfer rates from AP to display can be minimized to as low as 10Hz in order to save power consumption.

The display refresh rate was originally listed between 10 and 120Hz (10 to 120 frames per second), and we later opted to update how we communicate this specification in order to be in line with the more widely-recognized industry standard.

The S22 Ultra sports a 1-120Hz variable refresh rate with its Dynamic AMOLED 2X LTPO panel.

Which, in plain English, means what? I think they are saying "some parts of the phone would support 10Hz if we'd used a panel that did too, but as the panel we used doesn't we've changed the description to match reality (after you caught us out)". Presumably all the blather about "to be in-line with the more widely-recognised industry standard" is intended to create the impression that in some sense the original claim was true but they're doing you a favour by making it easier for you to compare with other devices, as opposed to the reality of "the phone can't do what we originally said it could".

I'd honestly respect them more if they just said "We wrote this for the Ultra model and copy-pasted it without checking. Sorry."
