The Sun emits all visible wavelengths of light. SEEING them, especially at the opposite ends of the spectrum, is quite tricky.

One very unique advantage of being at sea - I mean WAY out there, where the nearest land is five miles, straight down - is that on a clear day with no haze and calm seas, sunset is a magical moment. Those of us fortunate enough to have been there can attest to the "green flash"... just as the Sun slips below the horizon, that last little sliver reveals a brilliant green hue - only for a brief moment, but a memorable moment nonetheless. I'm sure it's there at sunrise as well: but without being able to know its precise location on the horizon, it's nearly impossible to see in the morning.
