Root Successfully rooted ZTE Avid 4G (MetroPCS)

I was having problems rooting at first. I thought i would make the instructions a bit noob friendly. My issue was with the cd instructions. So I did this. I hope it helps. The different instructions will have an asterisk*

1: Boot phone into FTM (hold the Volume Down key and power on device).
2: Connect USB cable to your computer.
*3: Download ZTE Avid 4g root (MetroPCS).zip and unzip
to root of your C: hard drive.*
4: Open a command prompt (Start+R) type "cmd".
*5: From the command line type "cd C:\6" to get the newly created directory and
type root.*
6: While the phone reboots, be sure to hold the "Volume Down"
button to boot back into FTM. If it begins to boot normally, pull
the USB cable and power phone down to reattempt booting into FTM.
Once you're back in FTM, plug the USB cable back in and the script
should resume the process.
7: Once it's finished, let the phone boot into normal mode and
verify root access. I used "Root Checker Basic"

OMG dude your process worked! This should be in the OP! This is clearly the most detailed instructions. My camera works again to!

Non of the tethering apps worked for me either. Just use the stock hotspot app and change your computer browsers user agent to android or another mobile based os. I use firefox. When you turn on the hotspot app you will get a couple pop up messages. Just ignore them and it will work. Someone else also mentioned that if you run Ubuntu that the tethering works with no problems.

I followed the steps and rooted my phone. used root checker it was successful but when I tried using a wifi tether like the 1st app. It rebooted my phone. I tried others and they don't seem to work. any ideas, did I do something wrong?

The app I use to tether is WiFi Tether TrevE Mod
These are the settings I use that have worked on Windows and Linux

  • Device-Profile: Generic ICS/JB (wlan0)
  • Setup-Method: Netd (master)
  • Change Channel: Channel 08 (2447 MHz) [Don't think you need to do this]
  • WiFi-driver reload is checked
  • Routing fix is checked [Don't think you need to do this]

Question: after its rooted will the screen orientation work correctly? I've been having issues with it where it freezes and will stay in either portrait or landscape mode untill I restart my phone. Also noticed that the gps will stop working when this happens too. I've seen on numerous forums that a lot of other people are having these issues also and ZTE doesnt have a fix for it yet. Inclinometer from app store will make the orientation stay working but gps still just locates and does not actually pinpoint the location. Thanks in advance bro.

This should be a fairly straightforward process with minimal risk of bricking your device, however, I am definitely not responsible for any damages incurred during this procedure.

Prerequisites: ZTE device drivers for USB. (Connect your phone via the USB cable and choose the "Install Driver" connection type from your device).

1: Boot phone into FTM (hold the Volume Down key and power on device).
2: Connect USB cable to your computer.
3: Download View attachment 47664 and unzip.
4: Open a command prompt (Start+R) type "command".
5: From the command line, cd into the newly created directory and type root
6: While the phone reboots, be sure to hold the "Volume Down" button to boot back into FTM. If it begins to boot normally, pull the USB cable and power phone down to reattempt booting into FTM. Once you're back in FTM, plug the USB cable back in and the script should resume the process.
7: Once it's finished, let the phone boot into normal mode and verify root access. I used "Root Checker Basic".

Enjoy!

Thanks mate...Works also in my ZTE T81...perfect...:)...
