I'm going with option one being the whole generation of Atari / Coleco Vision / Pong / Those weird keyboard things that were kind of like and Atari but sort of a computer too / etc.

Is there an option for 1/2? My first controller actually predates the Atari 2600. The Coleco Telstar was a pong-like game that connected to the TV via RF switch. Two people huddled over the console and controlled their on-screen paddles with the two knobs. If someone was a really bad loser, they could hit the RESET button in anger... and often did
