  • Question
Where are the contacts actually stored on my Android phone ?

I have a Samsung Galaxy A50
It runs Android 11
I also run the Google Contacts app version 4.2.24.508113282
Everything works fine.

I'm trying to understand where physically, the contacts that I create, are stored on the phone.
And woul appreciate a little education.

Scenario one:
Let's say that I create a new contact.
Across the top of the screen, there is a "Save to" value that contains my GMail address by default.
I fill in all of the appropriate information.
I tap on "Save".
Syncing works just fine in that in a moment or two if I go to "contacts.google.com", I can see my newly created contact.
Question:
If I could, where would I look on my phone to find the newly created contact ?

Scenario two:

Let's say that I create a new contact.
Across the top of the screen, there is a "Save to" value that contains my GMail address by default.
I fill in all of the appropriate information.
But this time before I tap on "Save", I tap on my email address in the "Save to" field of the UI.
I get a drop down menu that shows my GMail address as well as "Device".
I choose "Device".
Of note, right below the Device selection the following is displayed. "vnd.sec.contact.phone".
Finally, I tap on "Save".
Where can I find THIS newly created contact on my phone ?
I searched for "vnd.sec.contact.phone" on my phone, but have not been able to find anything with that name.
By the way, this newly created "Device" contact does NOT get synced to contacts.google.com even though I have turned on "Also sync device contacts".
Why would THAT be ?

Airplane mode reminder

My issue is that I will turn on airplane mode to play a game uninterrupted and then if something happens I'll forget to turn off airplane mode until I try to use the internet.. possibly a day or more later. Does anyone know of an app that will remind me every configurable minutes while in airplane mode that I am in airplane mode? Or something that will let me put the phone in airplane mode for a configurable amount of time and then automatically turn off would work also.

Frustration after system update

Can anyone comment usefully on something that I discovered yesterday (26 Feb 2023). My phone is an Android — a Motorola moto g22. On 25/2/2023, I allowed a system update (update number: STAS32.79-77-28-18-2) and everything seemed fine. However, the day after the update, I clicked on DuckDuck Go, which I had downloaded and installed myself, months ago, and had trouble-free use of.

Since the update, when I click on the icon for DuckDuck Go (a search engine), instead of it opening, what opens is something called OneDrive (I believe this is a Google storage site). Oddly, when, months ago, I had dragged an icon for "Drive" (that name exactly) on my desktop, it showed as an an icon that was different from the triangular icon for Drive that shows in my Apps folder. It had its own icon (different, as stated), plus a small inset of the icon for DuckDuck Go, attached to it and seemingly a part of the OneDrive icon! Furthermore, its name was not "Drive" any more, but "OneDrive". (The original app, in my Apps folder, still shows as a triangle, with the name Drive (only).

I am sure that Google/Android does not take kindly to users having DuckDuck Go installed, because they want to track what you do on-line, whereas DuckDuck does not allow tracking. Previous system updates have not prevented DuckDuck Go from opening.

Can anyone tell me how to get DuckDuck Go to open as it used to do before this update?
With thanks in advance,
S.

Constantly resetting network settings

Hello. I have an LG Stylo 6 from Cricket Wireless. Love the phone and service but in the last week I have had to constantly reset network settings otherwise cannot connect to internet. This happens whether I am outside or home - I never use home wifi to connect - always cellular network.
It is not due to software update - my software is up to date everytime.
So everytime I cannot connect I would have to reset all network settings then instantly I can connect. But in less than an hour I cannot connect again. So I have to do this frequently - which is not normal!
I even did what Cricket phone support suggested - took out and then re-inserted the SIM card - issue persists.
This is my 4th LG phone with Cricket since 2015 and the 1st time this is happening.
Has anyone had this issue before?
Any suggestions for further troubleshooting or solution?
Thanks so much in advance!

Help Hacking (gasp) APK

There are tools for this, but I only want to update a VERY old APK that originally came from Google Play and now seems to be pretty much abandonware.

Works fine on my old phone (Android 7) , but does nothing on Android 11.

I have several tools to help with this, but have no idea how to use them.

Maybe something as simple as changing the SDK version?? Need advice.
