The only time I got really upset when when something was cancelled mid-first series, was Planet of the Apes (1974), but then I was only 11.
Star Trek - Discovery...meh! I've already given up watching that. Currently working my way through first and second series of Prison Break during my TV watching time. And Mindhunter from Netflix looks promising.

I've seen all of them so far, and it was reasonably OK until episode 6, then then I didn't have a clue what was going on here. So I just turned it off half way through as I was falling to sleep. One thing, STD is more like a continuous soap opera now, each episode isn't really a self contained story, like the "Original Series" and Next Generation. BTW I never cared for DS9 much. I thought Enterprise was OK though, what I saw of it.
At the moment, I don't have much spare time to sit down and watch TV anyway.
i like it that there is a bigger story that ties it all together...
and side stories from characters.. building more dimensions in the story and a deeper bond..
as will as each episodes main story.
that is more engaging... than each episode stands alone..
I hesitate to get into the "Orville IS THE NEW Trek" conversation. I have watched a sum total of 4-5 hours of Discovery ... there are things I absolutely HATE, but there's also some things I am ... intrigued by. I also remember that The Next Generation was almost unwatchable for the first season. So as a 40+ year Trekkie (I never got the Trekker thing - I digress) I reserve the right to decide at a later date. I plan on getting the subscription in January so I can watch the front half and back half of S1 in short order and then cancel. I'll decide then or after season 2.
The Orville? To be honest, I am shocked at just how good and deep and rich and full of fun and life and tech and societal issues, and ... I mean honestly ... S1 of Orville is as good or better than EVERY 1st season of Trek since TOS.
Just my humble opinion of course.
But Trek overall? It blows Orville out of the water.
Anyway, if you haven't watched Orville ... do so, and do it now, you won't regret it.

The Orville is so much better than I expected it to be. It's fun (and funny) but also gets serious about exploring moral/cultural issues with surprising depth. I know it's not Trek, but it's got a lot of what I really like about Trek to begin with. Plus it has dick jokes, so there's that too.
Planning on doing the "free" trial this weekend for CBS streaming. The Mrs. and I will get all caught up and watch the new ones this month and decide if it's worth the investment. From the buzz online I'm looking forward to this new episode directed by Frakes. (1/10)
I want to be excited about this because Picard, but I'm hesitant since it seems to be spearheaded by one of the goons responsible for STD - and because I'm not going to sign up for an All Access subscription just to watch a single show.
