So...has anybody ever been invited to one of these? If so, Where was it held, Did you go who was the chef and did you like it?

The first rule of the Secret Dining Society is you don't talk about the Secret Dining Society :p

Seems kind of snobby to me...but also...thinking it might be kind of cool..

I'm always up for posh nosh :D

Think it will be wasted on me as I am a very picky eater and probably wouldn't appreciate it! not a big wine person either..

although.....heard something about tequila pairings...hmmm that would be mexican food perhaps....hmmmmm I love mexican!...can't even smell tequila tho....(college day's flashbacks;)

I saw something about these in one of the Anthony Bourdain shows (I think). If I remember correctly, the reason it was "secret" was so they could try things they couldn't legally serve at a restaurant, like ground pork tartare or casu marzu. They actually had to pixellate video and bleep out words and it was like watching Japanese food porn.

One thing that did impress me, again from the show, was how down to earth the participants were. It was just a "club" of folks eating adventurous cuisine in non-public venues.

A friend of my mother's is a food health inspector (or whatever they're called) in NYC and apparently she says that for the last 30 years, there has been no danger in eating rare pork, so I guess, why not tartare?

Actually, just watching Japanese food prep can be somewhat disturbing.

I was flicking through the TV stations one time in Japan and came across a chef prep'ing some sashimi. He took a live fish, did his thing (amazing) and when he served the fish, the head was beside it and the mouth was still opening and closing

Have to say, I've never really trusted sashimi is outside of Japan coz you don't know how fresh it is - clearly not a problem inside Japan :D
